Historical Preservation

The Cameron Highlanders of the Northwest have participated in several historical preservation activities, and are always looking for more ways to help with these type of projects. We believe very strongly in preserving what is left of our historic places.

We have a long standing history with the Fort Stevens State Park Historic Area in Hammond, Oregon. We have performed many days of volunteer work there to help educate the public about the fort and it's preservation issues, and to encourage visitors to donate funds to help with that preservation. Two of our lads spent an entire summer there one year, providing Living History for the park's guests.

We have participated in the annual McLaughlin House Days fundraiser for the McLaughlin House National Historic Site in Oregon City, Oregon. This is the home of Dr. John McLaughlin, "The Father of Oregon." Dr. McLaughlin was the Chief Factor of the Hudson Bay Company's Fort Vancouver in the old Oregon Territory, now Vancouver, Washington. On his retirement, he settled on the banks of the Willamette River in Oregon City, next to the falls.
